PURPOSE OF JOB

 SBHI is seeking a passionate, reliable, and committed Day Service & Member Support Officer to assist in the function and delivery of an award winning, high-quality, large Day Service which provides specifically designed supports to individuals living with Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus.

This role focuses on providing day-to-day support to Service Members, coordinating inclusive activities and events, and ensuring smooth and safe Day Service operations in line with national disability policies, HSE New Directions Policy and SBHI standards. The position combines Service Member support, administrative and accounts management. This requires team collaboration to enhance service quality, accessibility, and impact in line with New Directions and Person-Centred Planning.

The ideal candidate will bring strong organisational skills, creativity, and compassion, with the ability to balance hands-on support for participants with administrative, accounts and communication responsibilities. Ideally the candidate will have experience within Disability Day Service provision and an understanding of New Directions Policy.

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with Day Service Manager and team to ensure smooth, safe, person centred daily operations and support to Service Members

  • Plan and coordinate inclusive events, activities, and accessible materials (e.g., Easy Read, UNCRPD-aligned) in line with individuals Person Centred Plans

  • Assist Service Members with daily activities and general personal care in line with national disability policies

  • Manage registrations, service-user records, service calendar, and GDPR-compliant data (via Easitool)

  • Oversee financial tasks with the team, including payments, invoices, bookkeeping, petty cash etc

  • Prepare notes for national staff meetings and submit monthly newsletter updates

  • In conjunction with Day Service and Communication Manager design flyers, social media posts, and resources using Canva for families, stakeholders, and the wider community

  • Coordinate referrals, implement and review Personal Care Plans, and maintain tailored Service Member supports

  • Support fundraising initiatives, Gala Ball, grants, and funding applications

  • Ensure compliance with health & safety, disability legislation, and SBHI policies

  • Contribute to quality improvement, service reviews, and accessible communication strategies

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • In Person Day Service Based role with regular direct contact and communication with Service Members, their families and wider supports, and Team Members.

  • The busy Day Service is based in Castleknock, Dublin 15 and operates five days per week.

  • Will involve occasional evening or weekend hours for events and activities

  • Physical activity is involved and is necessary while assisting in Day Service Implementation and supporting all steakholders involved on any given day.

  • Travel to community events or other SBHI services will be required

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND PERSONAL QUALITIES

Essential

  • Competent, well skilled and experienced knowledge of Administrative and Accounting procedures and duties.

  • Knowledge of disability legislation, accessibility practices, and GDPR requirements

  • Strong organisational and time management skills with attention to detail

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities

  • Competence in Microsoft Office, Canva, and data management systems (Easitool or equivalent)

  • Ability, passion and care to support individuals respectfully with general personal care and tailored plans

  • Understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, and duty of care

  • Creative, proactive and positive approach, particularly to Day Service Delivery and problem-solving

  • Ability to work independently and or collaboratively as part of a team and with Service Members and their families/wider supports

  • Ability to work in person in a vibrant and busy environment

Desired

  • Experience in Day Service or service delivery, ideally in disability, social care, or community services

  • Experience working with people with physical and/or intellectual disabilities

  • Knowledge of Easy Read communication and UNCRPD-aligned approaches.

  • First Aid and Manual Handling certification (or willingness to undertake)

  • Experience in event planning, social media management, or fundraising

  • Ability to drive with a full clean driving licence
